From The Horse's Mouth

A new play for pupils studying at Key Stage Two based upon the ‘Tonypandy Riots’ of 1910

Directed by Steve Davis

‘From The Horse’s Mouth’ imaginatively draws upon the words and the photographs of those involved in the ‘Tonypandy Riots’, dramatically weaving an historical adventure for present day audiences.

November the 7th. It is 1910. A crowd of thousands march through the Rhondda, extinguishing fires and plugging ventilation shafts in an effort to flood the mines and render them unworkable.

“What about the pit ponies”, a young boy asks his father. “Will they drown?”

The father holds his son tight. Against a backdrop of fire and violence, the crowd waits for the flash of a camera…history becomes silent. In 2010, a photograph falls from a cupboard – will the son’s voice be heard again?

‘From The Horse’s Mouth’ is an interactive theatre production culminating in a debate between the audience and the characters about themes raised by the play.

Is History Important?  Are humans more than animal?

Requires a performing space of 5 metres wide, by 6 metres long, by 3 metres high.

Suitable for two classes of pupils studying at Key Stage 2
